Dalmia Cement (Bharat) Group MD & CEO Mahendra Singhi elected President, Cement Manufacturers Association (CMA) of India

New Delhi, 3rd December, 2018: The Cement Manufacturers’ Association (CMA), the apex representative body of large cement manufacturers in India, at its 56th Annual General Meeting (AGM) has elected Mr. Mahendra Singhi, Managing Director and CEO, Dalmia Cement (Bharat) Ltd as its new President. He takes over from a legacious tenure of the outgoing President Dr. Shailendra Chouksey.

As the past President Dr. Shailendra Chouksey as a handing over said, “It has been a rewarding and a very satisfying two-year period when we could usher in fresh thinking and accelerate the Association on an irreversible track. I am thankful to all Members and the Secretariat for their unstinted support extended to me during my tenure. We are delighted to have Mr. Singhi in this role as am sure with his learning and visionary experience he will take the Association to further heights.”

On the occasion of his appointment Mr. Mahendra Singhi said, “I am honored to be appointed as the President of the CMA. India is at cusp of great growth and infrastructure development. The Indian cement industry is at a significant moment of its history and I look forward to leading the Association towards a sustainable global future taking together all the relevant stakeholders and partners in this journey.”

At the 56th AGM, CMA members reiterated their commitment to remain closely aligned with the Government’s initiatives aimed at bringing impetus to urban and infrastructure development in the country. The members welcomed the Government’s several infrastructure initiatives announced over the last few years by the Government — from the development of smart cities to the modernisation of 500 cities, quality housing for all by 2022, cement concreting of national highways, dedicated freight corridors, linking of rivers and ports, building new airports, roads and bridges, provision of sanitation facilities, upgrading the irrigation infrastructure, and so on. The focus, however, was primarily to lead the sustainability mission of the industry being an imperative to realise the overall future ready infrastructure of the nation and world at large.

A veteran and a prominent figure in the Indian cement industry, Mr. Singhi has served as President of Rajasthan Manufacturers Association earlier. He is a science and law graduate by training and a Chartered Accountant.  Mahendra Singhi is a technology visionary with a proven track record of execution.

Over the last 40 years Mr. Singhi has played a prominent role in the growth and development of the country’s cement sector. He led Shree Cement before joining the Dalmia Bharat Group. He also serves as co-chair of the Cement Sustainability Initiative (CSI) in India. He is presently the Chairman of the National Council for Cement and Building Materials (NCCBM). He is also serving as Director in Indian Energy Exchange (IEX) and Global Cement and Concrete Association (GCCA). Mr. Singhi is the Commissioner in the Energy Transition Commission (ETC) and serving as Co-Chair of TERI Council for Business Sustainability (TERI-CBS).
