15th April 2019, (Bengaluru, Karnataka) – The LinkedIn Technology Information Pvt. Ltd., Bengaluru office announced today that it has been awarded LEED Platinum certification. The LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) rating system, developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), is the foremost program for buildings, homes and communities that are designed, constructed, maintained and operated for improved environmental and human health performance.

“At LinkedIn, we are absolutely committed to protecting the planet while we are growing globally. That’s why we design our workspaces with the highest sustainability standards like LEED, and over 60% of our global office footprint has a green building certification,” says Peggy Brannigan, Global Program Manager for Sustainability at LinkedIn.

LinkedIn achieved LEED Platinum certification by implementing practical and measurable strategies and solutions aimed at achieving high performance in sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection and indoor environmental quality. The LinkedIn office space has achieved energy savings of 42%, uses 46% less water compared to a traditional building and has 100% height adjustable workstations. The office can lower carbon footprint as the facility is designed for easy access to public transport, carpooling parking and bicycle storage facility for employees who would like to cycle to work. The project has scored a total of 92 out of 110 points under the LEED 2009 for Commercial Interiors rating system.

Space Matrix, the design partner behind the project, has over 18 years of experience in workplace strategy, design and execution and is committed to creating workspaces that inspire people, impact businesses and support sustainability. Mansi Patel, International Client Solutions Lead at Space Matrix and manager on this project, shared the design thinking behind LinkedIn’s Bangalore office. “We designed self-sufficient ‘neighbourhoods’ at the project that articulated the core values and innovative work ethic of LinkedIn. Each unique neighbourhood is a destination and is fully equipped with an array of spaces for both work and recreation. These neighbourhoods are interconnected by ‘project corridors’ to cater to project-based teams. Other shared facilities include a cafeteria, pantries, medical room, game rooms, music room, gym etc. These shared spaces provide the opportunity for adhoc interactions, hence making the environment at the LinkedIn Bangalore office naturally conducive for collaboration and innovation.”

Gopalakrishnan Padmanabhan, Managing Director – APAC and Middle East, Green Business Certificate Institute (GBCI), said “Buildings that achieve LEED certification are lowering carbon emissions, creating a healthier environment and reducing operating costs while prioritizing sustainable practices. Because of the leadership of companies like LinkedIn, we are increasing the number of green buildings and getting closer to USGBC’s goal to outpace conventional buildings, while being environmentally and socially responsible and improving the quality of life for generations to come.”
