Growth Wise: Here’s What Your Vastu-Aligned Workspace Should Look Like

By Dr Aarushi

New Delhi, February 20, 2025: Vastu shastra is an ancient science of architecture; it is not just restricted to the houses but is significant in designing the office space as well. Offices well designed with vastu principles can attract success, growth, prosperity and harmony to the employees of the organisation while reducing stress and conflict. Here are few guidelines we can follow to ensure that our employees enjoy the environment in which they work so they can deliver their best.

Facing

Facing for the office depends upon the kind of work/business it is associated with, but North and East facing are considered auspicious for almost all fields of business. Between North and East, North is given slightly more importance for monetary gains.

Location

After gauging the practical aspects of location, one must ensure that office is not opposite to a negative road hit. T-junctions should be avoided too. Hospitals, cemeteries, graveyards, temples should not be in close vicinity, unless the business is related to any of these things.

Reception

Office reception should preferably be in North-West, or else N-E can be considered. Brand logo should be on the South wall; the receptionist should be sitting along the South wall, facing North. Light sofas for visitors should be placed along North and East.

Director’s Cabin

Director’s cabin should be made in the South-West portion of the entire office, and floor level of the cabin should be slightly higher than rest of the office. If attached toilet is needed with the cabin, it should be made towards West of the cabin and office in totality. Director should be sitting along the South wall facing North. South-West of the cabin should not have any window.

Staff Arrangements

Sales and marketing team is better placed in the North-West segment of office, finance in South but employees should face North. Creative or designing teams should be in the North-East portion of office. Human Resource Department should also be sitting in between North and East for effective management of employees. Employees should always face North or East while working.

Pantry / Cafeteria

South-East is the best location to have pantry with arrangements of gas, hot plate, oven on the East wall and cafeteria can be extended towards East preferably, or south. North-West can be considered too for pantry but only if there is no scope of a pantry in South-East.

Rest Rooms

North-West, West and then South are the best directions to make washrooms. Water closet should be aligned North-South and basin should be on the East and North walls.

Meeting Rooms

Although meeting room for clients is good in North-East, meeting or conference room for internal employees is best in North-East of the office.

Furniture

Shape of furniture is very important for an organised and peaceful mind. Vastu suggests regular shapes like square and rectangle for the furniture and fixtures and there should be symmetry of design, height, and colour in the furniture. Sitting arrangement of furniture should not be done under any beam.

Colours

Office walls should have light tones. White, off-white, cream, beige, ivory are the best colours for business premises or offices. Decor in offices should be minimalistic.

Following vastu rules can transform the performance of employees, bringing success and profitability to an organization. Vastu-aligned workspaces don’t just attract success but nurtures the workforce to strive and maintain set standards of growth and productivity.
