NBCC brings major relief to the farmers of Maharashtra; expeditiously finishes part of Gosikhurd Irrigation Project

New Delhi, 23rd Aug 2018: Navratna public sector undertaking NBCC (India) Limited has expeditiously completed the first phase of Rs 1,058-crore Gosikhurd Irrigation Project in Maharashtra, recently awarded to the company by Vidarbha Irrigation Development Corporation (VIDC), bringing huge relief to the farmers of the region.

NBCC was roped in by Maharashtra government with the objective to expedite the Gosikhurd National Project which was held up since 2007. The company has completed the 10 km Nerla Canal structure well before the scheduled time in the first phase. The water through this main canal system was recently released which traversed through the canal irrigating approx 3200 hectares of area, providing much needed relief to the local farmers who were struggling from water woes from long. Timely supply of water in the fields shall minimise crop damage/loss and lead to better yield.

It is worth mentioning that NBCC has presently been implementing 82 km long Canal structure construction works under Gosikhurd National Project and the scope of work includes Right Bank Canal, Canal and Distribution System of Nerla and Mokhabardi LIS. The project site was partly handed over to NBCC on 16th November 2017 and within 9 months the work has been completed, including soil investigation, design and execution. The company expects to secure more works under this Irrigation Scheme of the State govt. which has total works worth Rs 6000 crore.

NBCC shall complete the remaining works of Nerla Main canal by 2019, subject to the balance land acquisition process being completed by VIDC.
