NBCC To Construct 65-storey ‘twin-tower Trade Centre’ In Guwahati

NBCC, a Navratna CPSE under the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), Govt. of India, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Assam on 2nd February 2018 for the construction of a Twin-Tower Trade Centre in Guwahati valued at approx. Rs 1950 Crores.

The MoU was signed between Dr. Anoop Kumar Mittal, CMD, on the behalf of NBCC (India) Ltd. and Shri. Ravi Capoor, Additional Chief Secretary, on the behalf of Govt. of Assam in the presence of Chief Minister of Assam, Shri Sarbananda Sonowal; Union Minister of Housing & Urban Affairs, Shri Shri Hardeep Singh Puri; and Minister of Industry & Commerce, Govt. of Assam, Shri Chandra Mohan Patowary.

The iconic Twin-Towers are being built on a land of approx. 10.6 acres area, which has been provided by the State Government, and the project shall be executed on a self-revenue generating model by NBCC. It will be equipped with modern amenities integrated with state-of-the-art IT enabled services, and will house convention centre, hotel, shopping complex, service apartments, residential zones, museum, cinema halls basement parking with a capacity of 4000 cars, multi layered security system. etc. The eye-catching design of the towers has been inspired from the symbols of Assam such as ‘one-horn Rhino’ and ‘Dhol’.

The project, touted to be the new Trade and Business Gateway for South-East nations, will immensely boost economic interlinkages by facilitating global trade and investment; thereby empowering the State of Assam and the North-East on a whole.

Speaking on the occasion, Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, CM, Assam spoke about creating an ecosystem through which the State would prosper and the Twin Tower Trade Centre with in-house arrangement will give a new boost to business in the State. Thanking NBCC for taking up the responsibility to build the towers, he added “During our first meeting with NBCC we had asked them to submit designs for this project, and the designs that were produced before us truly reflected the expertise of the company. Now, that the MoU has been signed we expect the company to adhere to the timeline and develop this project with Speed, Scale and Quality.”

Shri Hardeep Singh Puri, Minister of HUA stated “This building is not just an impressive structure but it embodies the spirit of progress, the aspirations of the youth and a world class design. The Twin Towers Trade Centre is going to be not only a symbol of the greatness of Assam, but also a visible manifestation of PM’s Act East Policy.”

He urged NBCC to maintain the project guidelines, commending NBCC’s technical capacity and quality delivery mechanism; and further assured Assam Govt. to extend all support from the Government of India.

Dr. Anoop Kumar Mittal, CMD, NBCC shared the details on the Project with the media and shed light on some of the significant features as conceived by NBCC. He stated that this structure would be built incorporating green norms and have GRIHA compliance. “The company has prepared the design considering the seismically-active location of the city”, he informed. Dr. Mittal further added that NBCC was looking to acquire the license from World Trade Centers Association (WTCA) and develop this project as a World Trade Centre.

“The work on Twin-Tower Trade Centre Guwahati will commence in July 2018 and the company will make all-out efforts to complete it within 3 years.” he concluded.

NBCC is also constructing a World Trade Centre in Nauroji Nagar, Delhi, which is also the nation’s largest World Trade Centre spanning approx. 60 lakh sq feet of built up area and is expected to be fully operational by 2019.
