Satya Nadella Leads HSBC Hurun Global Indians List 2024, Pichai Next

Mumbai, January 21, 2025: Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella took the top spot in the inaugural edition of the HSBC Hurun Global Indians List 2024, with Aphabet CEO SundarPichai taking second spot, and Neal Mohan of YouTube third. The cumulative value of the companies led by global Indians in the HSBC Hurun Global Indians List 2024 stands at $10 trillion.
The ‘HSBC Hurun Global Indians List 2024’, ranks the 200 most valuable companies in the world led by Indian-origin leaders. Companies were ranked according to their value, defined as market capitalisation for listed companies and valuations for non-listed companies. The cut-off date used was 29th November 2024. This is the inaugural edition of the list.

The objective of the list is to highlight the role played by the Indian diaspora in the global economic landscape. The list includes 226 CEOs, managing directors, and founders from 200 companies, all based outside of India.
San Francisco tops the list of preferred cities with 37 individuals from the HSBC Hurun Global Indians List 2024, which has a cut-off of $1 billion. Software & Services and Financial Services lead, accounting for half of the entrants. The average age of the 226 individuals is 56 years.

Other Highlights of the HSBC Hurun Global Indians List 2024

  • Leena Nair, Global CEO of Chanel, was acknowledged as the most influential woman of indian origin.
  • San Francisco has the highest number of entrants in the HSBC Hurun Global Indians List 2024, with 37 individuals residing in the city. In the UK, London accounts for the largest group with 8 entrants, while Dubai leads the Middle East with 6 residents on the list.
  • 27-year-old Tanay Tandon, co-founder and CEO of Commure, is the youngest in the HSBC Hurun Global Indians List 2024.
  • The top 10 account for nearly 73 per cent of people of the total value on the list.
  • The HSBC Hurun Global Indians List 2024 also features names from the 2024 Hurun India Rich List, which includes 101 NRIs, 79 per cent self-made. L.N. Mittal & family tops the Hurun India Rich List with ₹184,500 crore, followed by Gopichand Hinduja & Family at ₹178,600 crore.
  • 57 per cent of leaders in the HSBC Hurun Global Indians List 2024 are first-generation entrepreneurs, with professionals and inheritors making up the rest.
  • Dominating the HSBC Hurun Global Indians List 2024, software and services emerge as the largest industry with an impressive 87 entrants, followed by financial services with 24 representatives and healthcare, contributing 21 notable figures.
  • 79 per cent of the entrants reside in the USA, followed by the UK with five per cent and UAE with four per cent.
  • 62 per cent of HSBC Hurun Global Indians began their undergraduate studies in india, while 77 per cent pursue postgraduate degrees in the USA.
  • IIT Madras leads as the top undergraduate alma mater with 14 entrants, while Stanford University dominates postgraduate choices with 20 global leaders.
  • The HSBC Hurun Global Indians List 2024 features 12 women.
  • Sundar Pichai leads with 5.4 million followers on social media, followed by Satya Nadella at 3.2 million and Naval Ravikant with 2.6 million among HSBC Hurun Global Indian Leaders.
