UPRERA begins Virtual Court hearings, stakeholders applaud the move

UPRERA

Noida, May 18, 2020: With a view to resume the hearing of the cases, Uttar Pradesh Real Estate Regulatory Authority (U.P. RERA) initiated the virtual hearing on Monday for two benches each at Gautam Buddh Nagar and Lucknow. As many as 40 cases were listed before the bench of Hon’ble Chairman and Hon’ble Members between 11 AM to 12 noon.  Authority had communicated the date and time of hearing through video conferencing well in advance through email and SMS to both the parties whose cases are in argument stage.   The Virtual hearing team from Authority is also making phone calls to the parties for facilitating the process and to offer technical help to the parties, if needed.  To start with, the Authority is hearing 10 cases per day per bench considering the fact that the allocation of 15 minutes of VC session is needed for each of the cases.

After hearing, Hon’ble Chairman expressed his views in the following manner, “Congratulations to team video arguments! This was an idea welcomed by all. And people were able to participate from far-off places!

That’s safe, quick, efficient and economical! Seems win-win for all and the way to go for all cases”.   To manage complaints in a transparent and timely manner, UP RERA implemented an e-Courts system from 2 March 2020. The Authority has also decided to start listing of the cases before the Adjudicating Officer and Conciliation Forum through the virtual medium of hearing. The dates will be soon fixed, and the parties will be informed through email and SMS.  A press release issued by UP RERA says that in this way the Authority is ensuring normal functioning of the hearing and disposal of the complaints notwithstanding the dislocation caused by COVID-19 pandemic and it expects that the virtual hearing will be proved to be a very strong instrument of imparting justice to the aggrieved parties in a transparent, efficient and time-bound manner.
