Welspun Corp opens steel plant in Anjar

October 3, 2022, Anjar, Gujarat: Welspun Metallics Limited, a subsidiary of Welspun Corp Limited (WCL), the flagship company of the Welspun Group, has forayed into Steel Manufacturing as a part of the company’s overall Business Growth and Diversification Strategy by launching a state-of-the-art Greenfield manufacturing facility in Anjar, Gujarat.

Bhupendra Rajnikant Patel, the Chief Minister of Gujarat, Shri. Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Union Minister of the Jal Shakti Ministry, India, inaugurated the plant along with BK Goenka, Chairman of Welspun Group, and Vipul Mathur, MD and CEO of Welspun Corp Ltd. 

Other dignitaries present at the inaugural event included Nimaben Acharya, Speaker Gujarat Legislative Assembly, Vinod Chavda, Member of Loksabha (Kutch), Vasanbhai Ahir, Member of Gujarat Legislative Assembly (Anjar), Maltiben Maheswari, Member of Gujarat Legislative Assembly (Gandhidham). 

Set up with a total investment of approximately Rs 2000 crores (including downstream facilities), the Blast Furnace has a production capacity of 5 Lakh Metric Tonnes Per Annum (500,000 MTPA). The plant is spread over more than 100 acres of land providing direct employment for an additional 2000+ people, while creating thousands of indirect jobs and livelihood opportunities.

Commenting on the development  Bhupendra Rajnikant Patel, the Chief Minister of Gujarat, said, “Welspun Group has changed the entire socio-economic structure of the region of Kutch by generating gainful employment for thousands of local youth.”

Speaking at the launch Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, The Union Minister for the Jal Shakti Ministry, India, said, “The region of Kutch will be playing a very important role in making India stand out, paving the path to becoming the world leader. It is a mighty step by the company towards fulfilling the Prime Minister’s dream.”
