Working women in Delhi suggest safe transportation and flexi work hours: PHD Chamber Survey
Working women in Delhi have suggested safe transport facilities for their daily commutation along with provision of flexi work -hours and work from home facilities, in a survey study conducted by PHD Research Bureau of PHD Chamber of Commerce & Industry.
Dignitaries from various organizations assembled in PHD Chamber of Commerce & Industry in a programme on Ease of Doing Work for Women and the release of report on Ease of Doing Work for Women in Delhi NCR.
The survey study said that 91% women are satisfied with the support extended by their seniors, 86% say no exploitation at work place, 84% appreciated maternity benefit, 82% say regularity in increments and wages, 80% say job security at work place and 70% say no discrimination at work.
According to the Survey, 58% women of Delhi NCR are satisfied with work environment in their respective offices, said Mr. Anil Khaitan, President, PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry in a press statement issued here today.
We appreciate the efforts of the government for introducing Maternity Benefit (Amendment) Act, 2017 which has played a significant role in securing women employment and improving ease of doing work, said Mr. Khaitan.
PHD Research Bureau, the research arm of PHD Chamber of Commerce & Industry conducted a survey to analyze the Ease of Doing of Work for women in Delhi NCR. The survey aimed to identify the challenges faced by women which hampers their growth and welfare at work place.
The survey undertook responses from around 1240 working women across Delhi NCR across the sectors.

According to the survey, majority of the working women (91%) receive help from their superiors when they face work related problems.
Majority of the respondents (84%) revealed that their office provide maternity leave for 6 months as per the latest amendment of the Act by Government of India.
Around 82% women get increments in their salary/wages every year and 80% women believe that they have adequate job security in their unit.
Also, 74% women get regular training and development workshops at their work place which enhance their confidence and ease of doing work.
The survey revealed that around 70% women do not face any discrimination at work place by their employer.
However, on the weaker side, crèche facility, gym, unavailability of work from home facility, unease in getting leave on demand and unavailability of travelling allowance among others are few factors which act as bottlenecks which affect ease of doing work for women in Delhi NCR, said the survey study.
Around 94% women reported that their office lacks crèche-day care facility and 78% women don’t have work from home facility in their respective offices, said Mr. Khaitan.
In order to improve the ease of doing work environment for women, companies must ensure key facilities at work place to help women accommodate both their personal and professional lives including crèche facility and pick- drop facility, said the survey study.
Going ahead, organizations need to come up with measures to increase workplace diversity and create an inclusive and supportive work environment for women, said Mr. Khaitan.
It is suggested that there should be focus on Law and order, Safe Transportation, Flexi-hours – Balance Family, 26 weeks maternity benefits, Doctor and medical tie up, Work from home, Crèche facility, Equal opportunity and don’t let anyone step on dignity for the ease of doing work for women, said Mr. Anil Khaitan.
We look forward to the organizations working towards giving more facilities and incentives to women which would accelerate women’s participation in economic activities at a much higher level in the coming times, said Mr. Khaitan.
Around 20 parameters were considered for calculation of ease of doing work score for women in Delhi NCR viz cooperation and support received from seniors, exploitation faced at work place, regularity in increments in salary/wages, job security, availability of skill development and training facility, provision of maternity leave, discrimination at work place, availability of Grievance Redressal cell and satisfaction with work timings, availability of food allowance among others.
