Talks on with stakeholders on ‘Housing for All’: Naidu

NEW DELHI: The Government is holding talks with all the stakeholders on the scheme of providing ‘Housing For All’ by 2022, Minister of Housing & Urban Poverty Alleviation M. Venkaiah Naidu informed the Rajya Sabha in a written reply on Thursday.

venkaiahNaidu informed the House that a technical group has estimated urban housing shortage of 187.80 dwelling units in urban areas of the country. He also said that 2,20,741 houses have been built in urban areas during the last three years under different programmes, like the Jawaharlal Nehru Urban Renewal Mission(JNNURM), Rajiv AwasYojana (RAY) and Affordable Housing in Partnership.

Uttar Pradesh tops the list with urban housing shortage of 30 lakh units followed by Maharashtra (19 lakh units), West Bengal (13 lakh), erstwhile Andhra Pradesh (13 lakh), Tamil Nadu (12 lakh), Bihar(12 lakh), Rajasthan (11 lakh), Karnataka (10 lakh), Gujarat (9 lakh) and Jharkhand (6 lakh).

In a separate reply, Naidu informed the House that 70.63 per cent of urban households in the country have access to tap water supply within, near and away from their premises. Another 20.76 per cent household draw water from tub wells and hand pumps while the rest from other sources.
