Homeowners in Gurgaon may have to pay more property tax
Homeowners in Gurgaon may have to shell out more property tax as the local Municipal Corporation is firm on its inability to take up private colonies and HUDA sectors for maintenance with the current levies.
According to a media report, after abruptly announcing in February that MCG would take over upkeep of some private colonies in the city, the state Government last month decided to transfer all HUDA Sectors across the state to municipal corporations for maintenance. But the corporations, including MCG, have a resource crunch and are looking for additional funds for their new responsibilites.
The report said MCG has made it clear that it will not be able to maintain these areas with property tax alone and has asked the Haryana Government for permission to collect maintenance fees as well.
According to sources quoted in a newspaper report, Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar has asked the urban local bodies department to see if the property tax can be revised in order to ensure that funds are generated. If and when affected, the property tax will go up across the state of Haryana.
The increased charges should be enough to cover maintenance of colonies that will get transferred to MCG eventually; Khattar is reported to have told officials.
The CM had announced on February 5 that DLF Phases 1-3, Sushant Lok-1 and Palam Vihar would be brought under MCG’s purview.
