Noida may soon switch to LED streetlights
The Noida Authority is planning to replace existing streetlights with energy-efficient light emitting diode (LED) bulbs across the city.
The Authority would invite request for proposal (RFP) for the project next week and once done, Noida would be a model city in energy conservation, said an official.
According to officials, the aim is to deliver better quality light, apart from saving on maintenance costs and reducing the city’s annual energy consumption by more than 50 per cent.
“LEDs have a longer life span and are easier to maintain. In the first phase, we will replace about 2,500 street lights. Currently, there are about 10,000 streetlight points in the city,” said Hom Singh Yadav, chief maintenance engineer (water), Noida Authority.
The first phase of replacement of streetlights is likely to take place between the Noida entry gate and Noida-Greater Noida expressway. However, the Authority is yet to decide on any particular area.
