#ShanivarNoCar campaign in Ranchi
Leveraging MoHUA’s India Cycles4Change and Streets for People challenges that aim to create walking and cycling-friendly infrastructures, Ranchi Municipal Corporation launched a campaign, called #ShanivarNoCar, on March 13.
Appealing to the people to participate in the campaign, Chief Minister Hemant Soren said, “Please use cycles whenever and wherever possible to make greener Ranchi”.
Jharkhand Minister for Agriculture Badal Patralekh and Ranchi Municipal commissioner Mukesh Kumar kick-started the campaign and participated in a cycle rally along with other Government officials and citizens.
The campaign is based on people participation. There is no ban on driving a car on Saturday; the people have been requested to voluntarily help in this campaign.
The Municipal Corporation is also working towards bringing the infrastructural improvements to ensure citizens get the best of experience while walking or cycling and shift to these sustainable modes of transport.
The Smart City Cycle project is already underway in Ranchi. Under this project, people can ride on bicycle rentals based on hourly charges.
